Ash disruptes Hartshead Moor Innings

Keighley Ash                                                  Icelandic Ash

Keighley 1st X1 took maximum points on the first day of the season at a sunny Lawkholme Lane.

A superb inning of 119 from Richard Robinson which included 7 sixes and 11 fours ( 3 roof tiles and a few visits to Mcdonalds car park) saw Keighley post a solid 225 for 5.

Robinson and Matthew Bottomley opened the innings for Keighley, Bott went for 3 falling to a juggled catch at gulley with the score on 36. This brought new recruit Imran Patel to the wicket to join Robinson who continued to dispatch the ball to all corners of the ground. Patel steadily nudged the ball round until he creamed one to mid on where he was caught for 11.

Paul Quinlan fresh from a stint down under continued his good form of last season along with Robinson they put on a quickfire 74 for the 3rd wicket. Robinson was next to go falling to a low diving catch at long off with the score on 161, his 119 coming off only 113 balls. Liam Dyson joined Quinny whom was now scoring freely unfortunately Dys was run out without troubling the scorers.

With plenty of wickets in hand Quinny started to open his shoulders and just one short of 50 was caught out in the deep. Steve Reape and Max Davison saw the inning to a close both unbeaten on 21 and 15 respectively.

In reply Hartshead Moor had no answer to Keighleys spin attack - Keighley Ash erupted returning belting figures of 6 for 49 off 14 overs .

Its a Titus one at Saltaire

    Keighley 2nds vs Saltaire 2nds – Saturday April 17th 2010

The sun was shining and the sky camera was at Keighley 2nd XI’s opening game away to Saltaire. They have started the season well, getting 18 points from a possible 20. Keighley 2nd XI had a few fresh faces who all contributed, so well done to Callum Jones, Ryan Ridehalgh, Ben Whitfield and welcome back to Hammy Shazad.

Keighley bowled first and they came up against some early resistance with the openers racing to 50. But they were pegged back as opening bowlers Jason Perry and Hammy Shazad found their lines and lengths; Perry picking up the first wicket with a smart catch from debutant keeper Callum Jones. Shazad continued to bamboozle the batsmen with his away swingers and got his just reward picking up a wicket. Jake Hoyle and Andy Coppen then came on and continued to peg the batters back and chances were coming regularly for the spin duo. Jake finished with figures of 2-41 off his 15 overs. They did really well in the heat and the electric outfield, picking up wickets. Captain Paul ‘Rowdy’ Wilkinson did well bowling to the tail picking up himself 2 wickets for only 7 runs. Keighley did well to restrict Saltaire to 189 on what seemed to be 200+ wicket. Throughout the innings Keighley fielded well with special mention to youngster Ben Whitfield who was brilliant in the field. Behind the stumps Callum had a solid debut – he took 2 catches and a stumping – the first of many we hope.

Keighley’s reply started well with Jake Hoyle and Paul Wilkinson going past 50, before Jake departed for 17. They steadily put runs on the board and were looking comfortably to chase down the target of 190. Paul Wilkinson made a majestic 45, and will look to continue that throughout the rest of the season and hopefully guide the team to promotion, after last year’s relegation. Luke Chapmen played a patient and solid innings making his way to 38. A few wickets fell and Andy Coppen came to the crease at number 6 and batted well, he made 37 not out and was there to guide the team home with Hammy Shazad coming in at the end to boom some quick boundaries getting 15 not out.

It has been an excellent opening weekend for the club getting 38 out of a possible 40 points.
