Botty blasts 88 whilst Towler topples 5
Keighley 1st X1 v Great Horton 1st X1 – Saturday May 1st 2010
Keighley 1st X1 were without the services of legendary all rounder Richard Robinson for this early season Top v Bottom division 2 clash at an overcast Lawkholme Lane.
Put into bat Keighley opening pair Matthew Bottomley and newly wed Andrew Waggett together put on 100 for the first wicket before Waggy was bowled for 41, a good knock after 2 weeks honeymooning.
Imran Patel coming in at no3 continued his good start to life at Keighley him and Bottomley adding a further 55 to the total before succumbing to a catch at mid on.
With plenty of wickets in the tent Keighley sent in Simon Bailey to try and build on the platform laid by the top order, a straight drive from Bailey saw the unlucky dismissal of Bott the Great Horton bowler deflecting the ball onto the wickets leaving Bott haplessly stranded out of his ground.
Bailey and new batsmen Paul Quinlan picked up a few quick singles before Bails departed for 11, stumped trying to dispatch the ball towards Silsden.Young wicketkeeper Jonny Wilkinson coming in at No6 saw the score past 200 before unluckily pulling one straight to the fielder at square leg.
Quinlan and husband to be of Cerys - Ross Towler saw the innings to a close, Quinlan not out 29 and Towler not out 3. Keighley finishing on 215 for the loss of 5 wickets.
In reply Great Horton lost their first wicket without a run on the board .The top order proceeded to chip away at the Keighley total with opener Talish Butt dominant. At 186 for 5 it looked as though Horton would surpass the Keighley total.
Re-enter opening bowler Towler whom after a couple of confident appeals for LBW removed dangerman Butt for 85. The rest of the Great Horton lineup had no answer to Towlers new found energy bowling from the Rugby Ground end, eventually running out of overs with 10 runs still required.
