Keighley 2nd`s take the Victoria from Spen.

Keighley 2nd X1 v Spen Victoria 2nd X1 - Saturday 5th June 2010

Scott Hartleys scientific approach to pre match preparation payed dividends with a match winning performance for Keighley 2nd`s at home to Spen Victoria.

Following up his 2 for 21 from 7 overs with a top score of 60 Hartleys innings swung the game in Keighleys favour when it was delicately poised at 85 for 4 chasing Spen Victoria`s first innings total of 199.

Bowling first Keighleys day got off to a far from ideal start losing opening bowler Shazad in only the 6th over with a pulled muscle. This brought Hartley into the attack sooner than anticipated, his 7 over spell in the scorching heat at Lawkholme seeing the fall of 2 key wickets.

Luke Chapman whose tidy spell of 7 overs conceded only 17 runs for 1 wicket, Waris Ismail 1 for 58 and Captain Wilkinson were Keighleys other wicket takers.

Spen`s innings closed on 199 for 8 their total bolstered by John Ireland coming in at number 6, whom after being dropped early in his innings went on to make a quickfire 63.

In reply Keighley lost skipper Wilkinson early in the innings, fellow opener Liam Dyson went on to make a classy 33 and Luke Chapman chipped in with 16 valuble runs. Coming in at 4 young Callum Jones was next to go with the score on 59, and when Keighley lost their 4th wicket that of Chapman at 85 the game was in the balance.

Old boy Nathan Barratt joined Scott Hartley out in the middle their 5th wicket partnership of 67 swinging the game Keighleys way. When Hartley returned back to the sheds to catch up on some deserved rest, young Ben Whitfield along with Barratt pushed the score on to 160, before contrary to photographic evidence, was run out trying to push the score towards the target of 200.

Another young prospect Ryan Ridehalgh`s quickfire 19 eased the pressure and when he was dismissed on 189 this left Keighley with only 10 runs to get. Looking like he`d never been away Barratts unbeaten 46 saw Keighley to a most welcome victory with an over and 2 wickets to spare.
